Glenn Beck has announced recently that he has been diagnosed with a condition called “macular dystrophy”. The popular radio and TV host made the information public during an appearance at Salt Lake City in a stop of his “American Revival Tour”

”A couple of weeks ago I went to the doctor because I can’t focus my eyes. Actually, I went to Lenscrafters first, and the guy said, ‘Whoa, you might be going blind.’” Said Glenn Beck, who also was shocked when the doctor told him ”You could go blind in the next year…or you might not.”

What is macular dystrophy? According to eMedicine:

“Macular dystrophy is an autosomal recessive condition, which is the least common but the most severe of the 3 major stromal corneal dystrophies. It is characterized by multiple, gray-white opacities that are present in the corneal stroma and that extend out into the peripheral cornea.” This is an uncommon condition in the United States.

As a progressive genetic condition it can lead to blindness. Well I don’t like Beck, but let’s hope he gets better!
